An International Dinner was held at Crawfordjohn Public Association Hall on Sat 22 November by Dumfriesshire Clydesdale and Tweeddale Constituency Labour Party.
Claudia Beamish, Scottish Labour and Co-operative Parties candidate for your Dumfriesshire Clydesdale and Tweeddale was delighted by the international turnout on Saturday 22nd November at Crawfordjohn Hall, for the constituency Labour Pary's International Dinner. The Party chose Crawfordjohn as it is in the rural heart of this collosal constituency, and members came from Dumfries, Sanquhar, Annan, Lockerbie, Douglas, Biggar and Peebles. Guests attended from Glasgow, North Berwick, Musselburgh. The gathering was truly international with people from Poland, America, China, India, Pakistan amongst other nations.
CLP members prepared European and Asian dishes using the good facilities at Crawfordjohn Hall, with locally sourced fare and Fair Trade ingredients. Spectacular deserts, decorated with the Labour Rose, were produced by Elevenses Cupcakes of Langholm. Selkirk Grace was spoken by John Brodie of Douglas, Vice Chair of the South clydesdale branch of the Labour Party. .
Speakers were Seb Szulc, a Polish worker, then Frank McGowan, Constituency Party Secretary and Unite shop steward, followed by Anas Sarwar Glasgow Central Westminster Candidate.
Russell Brown MP gave vote of thanks and made a stirring speech, up-holding the value of the minimum wage and reaffirming the committment to abolish child labour and slavery.
