Claudia Beamish has been elected as the new Chair of the Scottish Labour Party. The party position was elected at the Scottish Executive Committee this weekend at a meeting in Stirling.
Claudia, who lives in South Lanarkshire, is a teacher at local rural primary schools and is known as a strong environmental campaigner.
Speaking immediately after her election, Claudia Beamish said:
“I am delighted and honoured to be elected as the Chair of the Scottish Labour Party. With European, Westminster and Scottish Parliament elections all due in the coming two years this will be a busy time for our party.
“One of my priorities will be to ensure that we do all we can to meet our obligation to tackle climate change. We need to work together on that, and Labour must remain a leader that fight.”
Iain Gray MSP, Labour’s Scottish Parliament Leader, said:
“I would like to congratulate Claudia on her election as Chair of the party, and look forward to working with her in the coming year. I am sure she will do a very good job.”
Claudia Beamish is also Labour’s candidate in Dumfriesshire, Tweeddale and Clydesdale for the next Westminster elections. She succeeds Dave Watson whose term of office had expired.
